BIT: Building Independence Together was created in December 2016 due to the growing need for Medicaid providers of Applied Behavior Analysis Services in the Lowcountry. Our mission is to serve children and families by enabling each individual to reach their potential. With the use of evidence-based practices and research we strive to improve the quality of life for children and families by increasing each person’s level of independence.
BIT provides services throughout Charleston County, Dorchester County, Berkeley County, Colleton County, and we are continuing to expand. Our services are collaborative with other providers within our community. Building relationships with schools, advocacy groups, other therapy groups, and local nonprofits is our passion and believe it builds a community of support and compassion.
We firmly believe that every individual has the ability to learn and reach their level of independence. Independence may not look the same for each person, but we aid in guiding everyone to his or her highest level of independence.

Charis Afterschool Program
We believe that every opportunity is an opportunity to learn. Whether experiencing a planned lesson or a circumstantial obstacle, teammates are encouraged to take the reins. Teachers and volunteers in our program are never to “do for” a participant. Instead, we provide the tools and encouragement to set our teammates up for success! Life Skills consist of walking to the nearby Bilo to work on finding items in the store, budgeting, paying, and safety. Other skills include: cooking, cutting, dishes, cleaning, sweeping, writing a check, handling money, and many other necessary life skills needed as our adolescents near adulthood.
We are proud to provide an inclusive Summer Camp for ages 2-18 specializing in helping those is disabilities. Your child will learn and have fun with kids of all ages. Trained RBTs and a BCBA will lead social groups and provide services as needed. Outside SLP, OT, PT, and ABA companies are welcome to accompany your child in order for them to participate fully while getting the help they need. Older children will have the opportunity to learn functional skills such as money management and be able to go out to the community to practice the lessons taught.
ABA therapy is covered by many insurance providers for individuals with Autism. ABA is not only effective for individuals with Autism, but for an array of human behaviors. We will work within your means to ensure services can be provided efficiently and ethically.
